NUP Secretary General and Kampala Central parliamentary candidate David Lewis Rubongoya has pledged to address traffic congestion, drainage and healthcare challenges if elected.

David Lewis Rubongoya, the National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General and parliamentary candidate for Kampala Central, has pledged to tackle key urban challenges in the city, including traffic congestion, poor drainage and gaps in healthcare service delivery.

Speaking at a party rally in Kampala Central, Rubongoya said modernising the city’s transport system would be a priority, proposing the development of a functional urban train system to ease congestion.

“We must modernise transportation in Kampala. A reliable train system will not only reduce traffic jams but also improve the quality of life for residents,” Rubongoya said.

He also committed to improving drainage infrastructure to reduce flooding, upgrading market facilities, addressing challenges faced by street vendors and strengthening public healthcare services.

Rubongoya made the remarks as NUP leaders continued campaign activities in Kampala Central ahead of the upcoming elections. He said his campaign is focused on practical solutions to everyday challenges faced by city residents.

“Kampala is the heart of our nation, and it deserves efficient services, better healthcare and an economy that works for everyone, from market vendors to working professionals,” he said.

The rally attracted a large turnout of supporters, with party leaders urging voters to back NUP candidates in the forthcoming polls.

As the election period draws closer, Rubongoya’s proposals are expected to feature prominently in campaign debates, particularly among voters concerned about infrastructure, mobility and access to public services.
